Latin: latibulum (plural latibula); hiding place, refuge, den (of animals)

The selection presented here is a sneak peek of what's to come and a look back onto the label's diverse catalogue. All the music is previously unreleased or from upcoming Marionette albums.

Benjamin Kilchhofer and I decided to put together Latibula when it was evident that the COVID-19 pandemic would disrupt the release plans for 2020. This compilation is a small gesture towards our listeners and a reminder that music can unite people and be a place of comfort, a latibulum during difficult times.

The artists in order of the release are:

David Fenech & Klimperei - Tarzan En Tasmanie
Evocations of experimental and improvised jazz, chansonesque songs, bluesy folk, and outsider music.

Twinkle³ - Kalliope
Analogue sequencing, fluttering melodies and dub treatments by longstanding trio comprised of Richard Scott, Dave Ross, and Clive Bell.

Giraffe - Lines Across the Still
The band takes our head above the clouds and away from the brooding Saharan heat of their Desert Haze release, into cooler, more jazz and ambient filled territory - while the signature hand-drum hypnotism remains front and center.

Francesco Cavaliere & Tomoko Sauvage - 戴绿帽⼦ (dài lǜ màozi)
a man with a green hat
We are presented with a slice of their conceptual collaboration project, a calm and meditative blend of both worlds, the electroacoustic hydro-tones from Sauvage and the surreal electronic miniatures of Cavaliere.

Papiro - Serpentina
Cosmic explorations reminiscent of the pioneering electronic music composers of the past century.

MinaeMinae - Guis
An encore to his recently released Gestrüpp album that incomprehensibly missed the cut the first time around.

Pierre Bastien, Steve Argüelles & Benoît Delbecq - 4hands 1breath
Spearheaded by Argüelles, the idea of these unconventional recordings was to create an improvisational atmosphere where the piano is not just sustaining or providing harmony and Bastien's watery trumpet is not solo.

Soundwalk Collective - Black Night, Red Dawn
The Trio wandered the hallowed courtyards, corridors and classrooms of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (China), recording students practicing and rehearsing. Unexpected melodies are the result of impromptu, anarchic musical compositions of all instruments echoing each other in one acoustic space.

Kilchhofer - Kloen
The Swiss artist possibly made the first musical amalgamation of the Alps and the Highlands. Always on the search for the unheard yet familiar - Kilchhofer managed to create a mixture of tradition and synth experimentation with a sense of humour.

Julian Sartorius - Obacht
Rattling percussion and thumping bass-tones bridging the gap between organic timbres and the vocabulary of electronic music.

Max Loderbauer - Kleiner Hund
Loderbauer’s melancholic composition brings about a deep appreciation of the beauty and wonders of life.

A heartfelt thank you to all the artists involved, and to everyone lending an ear or two and an offering to aid those less fortunate.
